Godloves Home Improvements works on homes throughout Lawrence Township. We’re based nearby in Hamilton, and owner Charles Godlove has been doing this work since 2005. Lawrence sits between Princeton and Trenton, and its homes range from some of the oldest in Mercer County to recent construction.
Lawrence Township’s Neighborhoods
Lawrence covers about 22 square miles and is home to about 33,000 people. It’s made up of several named communities. We work in all of them:
- Lawrenceville, the village along Main Street, home to the Lawrenceville School
- Eldridge Park and Slackwood
- The neighborhoods near Rider University, Quaker Bridge and the Route 1 corridor
- Smaller places like Port Mercer, Clarksville and Princessville
The township was founded as Maidenhead in 1697 and renamed Lawrence in 1816. Building continued well into the 2000s: the township added about 2,000 housing units between 2000 and 2010. Many neighborhoods mix older homes with newer ones.
The Main Street Historic District
The Lawrence Township Historic District runs for more than two miles along Main Street and Lawrenceville-Princeton Road (Route 206), centered on Lawrenceville. It was one of the first historic districts in New Jersey listed on the State and National Registers in 1972, and it’s also designated by the township. It includes 18th- and 19th-century houses, former taverns and farmhouses, and buildings in Georgian, Greek Revival and Queen Anne styles.
If your home is in the district, check with the township about review before exterior changes like windows, siding, porches or additions. We’ve worked on century-old homes that needed Historical Society approval, and we know older houses need materials and trim that match what’s there.
Older and Newer Homes Alike
Older Lawrence homes can hide framing that isn’t square, plaster walls and aging wiring and plumbing. Newer homes often have builder-grade finishes ready for an upgrade. Either way, we focus on the parts you won’t see, like tile underlayment and framing, and we build beyond code minimums instead of just aiming to pass inspection.
Lawrenceville, Princeton or Trenton Address?
Most Lawrence Township homes use a Lawrenceville mailing address and the 08648 ZIP code, but some use a Princeton or Trenton address. Permits go through Lawrence Township no matter what your mail says. We serve all of them.
