Godloves Home Improvements works on homes throughout Hopewell Township. We’re based in Hamilton, and owner Charles Godlove has been doing this work since 2005. Hopewell is different from the rest of Mercer County: more land, more farmhouses and more history spread across a much bigger area.
Mercer County’s Largest Township
Hopewell Township covers about 59 square miles, the most of any town in Mercer County, and is home to about 17,500 people. It runs from the Delaware River to the Sourland Mountain region, with rolling hills, preserved farmland and Washington Crossing State Park. It’s made up of small communities, and we work in all of them:
- Titusville and Washington Crossing, along the Delaware
- Harbourton and Pleasant Valley
- Mount Rose, Marshall’s Corner, Glenmoore and Woodsville
- Bear Tavern, Pennington-area and Hopewell-area neighborhoods
Pennington and Hopewell Boroughs
Hopewell Township completely surrounds two separate towns, Pennington Borough and Hopewell Borough. They have their own governments, so permits and approvals there go through the borough, not the township. Many township homes also have a Pennington or Hopewell mailing address. If you’re not sure which one you’re in, check your property tax bill. We work in the township and both boroughs.
Historic Homes and Local Review
Hopewell Township has a long history, and some of it is protected. The township has a locally designated historic district, the Harbourton Rural Historic District, plus 26 individually designated landmarks, many of them farmhouses and houses in Titusville, Harbourton and Mount Rose. The Pleasant Valley and Titusville areas are also listed on the National Register.
For a designated property, the township requires a certificate of appropriateness before most exterior changes, such as additions, new windows and doors, or other changes to how the building looks. Painting and ordinary maintenance are generally exempt. We’ve worked on century-old homes that needed Historical Society approval, and we’re used to matching original materials and trim.
Farmhouses, Older Homes and Newer Builds
An old farmhouse can have framing that isn’t square, additions from different eras and systems that have been patched over the years. Newer homes on larger lots often have builder-grade finishes ready for an upgrade. In both, we focus on the work you won’t see, and we build beyond code minimums instead of just aiming to pass inspection.
